  • After graduating from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, in November 1973 and serving in the various Army, Navy & Air force Hospitals for the past 27 years, have taken prematurevoluntary retirement on 31 Dec 2001. Most of these hospitals were multi-discipline Super-Speciality Centres.On taking premature retirement was employed from01 Jan 2002, as Professor & Head, Department of Anesthesiology at RL Jalappa Hospital & Research Centre, Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, Tamaka,Kolar (Karnataka) till 22 Jan 2004. Last one year, I was employed as Professor of Anaesthesiology, on a United Nations Development Programme at Jimma University Medical College in Ethiopia.The project was to set up a Post Graduate Department in Anaesthesiology at the Medical College and Hospital attached to the University.
  • Paper evaluator and Post Graduate Examinerfor Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, India, since 1998 till Jan 2004.
  • Worked as Registrar in various Air Force hospitals in Administrative capacity. Large and varied exposure to hospital administration and Operation Theatre administration. Fully conversant with administration of General & regional techniques of anaesthesia including use of latest techniques and handling modern equipment. Extensive first hand experience in Trauma resuscitation in Army operations against extremist & terrorists in the far-east insurgency prone areas.
  • Well versed with invasive monitoring in critically ill patients and intensive care equipment such as ventilators. Experience in casualty air evacuation of the critically ill patients.
  • Intimately involved in setting up & starting of Renal-transplant centres in the Indian Naval hospital at Bombay in 1991 & Command Hospital (AF) at Bangalore in 1998.
  • Principal areas of work have been in Neuro-surgery, Onco-surgery, Orthopaedic, Re-constructive & Burns Unit, Urology& Kidney transplants, Obstetrical & Gynaecological surgery including pain relief in labour.
  • Medical member Third Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica 1983, was instrumental in setting up of an Operation theatre and an ICU at the Indian Base Camp ‘Dakshin Gangotri’ at Antarctica.Was part of the Medical team again as member of the Fifth Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica in 1985.
  • Member of the Hospital Waste management Committee which was a World Health Organisation (WHO) sponsored Bio-medical Waste Management Project. This was a pilot project in India in which Command Hospital (AF), Bangalore was chosen. Intimately involved in the project by implementing proper segregation, packing and disposal of waste from operation theatre and Intensive Care Unit (2000-02).
  • Chief of Air Staff Commendation Card (Indian Air Force), in 1998 for outstanding work beyond the call of duty.
  • Western Air Command Silver Medal for standing first in Advance Course in Anaesthesiology (Nov1977 – Dec 1979).
