The Department of Community Medicine started functioning right from the inception of the associated teaching hospital. The department is largely responsible for strengthening rural Maternity and Child Welfare services and the creation of a specialised area for hands - on experience in adjoining regions. The faculty is taking extraordinary steps in planning and executing health programmes in conjunction with the Central and State governments. They have already got their centre recognized as a DOT centre for examination of TB patients and for disbursing Anti-tubercular drugs.
